FDREL 324 Week 5

What three truths can you find in section 29 about the Creation, the Fall, and the Atonement (nine total) to help an investigator understand just how wonderful the Plan of Salvation is? Remember that investigators need basic and direct truths that clearly explain the Plan. Focus on the positive. Why are the concepts you chose especially important?

The Creation: TRUTHS

1. All things are spiritual before becoming temporal

(D+C 29:31-32)

a. This truth is important because it is important to recognize that we all have a spirit, created by God and we are his spirit children. This truth reemphasizes that we have a heavenly home and that we belong somewhere. We know where we came from and where we are going.

2. God’s works have no end (D+C 29:33)

a. This truth helps us understand the infinity of God. This helps us realize that the Plan is eternal and that God is looking out for us always.

3. God is our creator and he is looking out for us, just as a hen

(D+C 29: 1-2)

a. We do not have a proactive Father who is stern and uncaring. Our father in heaven loves each of us and cares for us just like a mother hen looks after her chicks.

The Fall: TRUTHS

1. God gave us agency (D+C 29:35)

a. Knowing that we have the choice to choose righteousness over wickedness helps us to understand better the reason why we must be accountable for our actions. We must take the consequences for our decisions.

2. Temptation necessary to back up agency, bitter/sweet

(D+C 29: 39)

a. People then might ask, why should we have temptation? If God loved us, he would protect us from evil. But, it is necessary to understand that without temptation our agency would not be validated. We have to have temptation in order for agency to benefit us. We have to have the bitter along with the sweet. There is opposition in all things. It is an eternal principle.

3. When we sin, after repentance, we are to sin no more

(D+C 29: 3)

a. True repentance requires that we commit the sin no more. Sincere repentance removes any desire that we have to commit sin, and so repeating the sin is not terribly difficult.

The Atonement: TRUTHS

1. All shall have the chance to have repentance preached to them

(D+C 29:42)

a. God will not judge unjustly. Even those who do not have the ability to hear the gospel in this life will have it preached to them in the Spirit World.

2. Repentance brings redemption and eternal life (D+C 29: 43-44)

a. Repentance through the Atonement washes away sin. Thus making us clean and allowing us to live with God again in the Celestial Kingdom.

3. Little Children cannot be tempted and are saved through Christ

(D+C 29: 46-47)

a. This is my favorite. Little children do not have the ability to be tempted by the Devil. He cannot bother them. They remain completely pure until the age of accountability. They are saved in Christ. They automatically go to the Celestial Kingdom should they die before age 8.

What do those truths teach you (as a Latter-day Saint) about God’s love for us?

God thought of everything. He is absolute and left nothing out. He loves us so much that He created a plan that covers every aspect of existence. He is Omnipotent and didn’t leave anything to chance. I know that God loves everyone of us. His Plan of Salvation is the only path to take to make it back to Him.
