So this morning was insane.
First off, I awake to thee sight of a Hobo spider in the corner of the bedroom on my side of the bed. IT was prowling on the wall soaking in the heat from the side table lamp that I had forgotten to turn off during the nightly Alex feeding.
This is a female Hobo...this is about what it looked like on my wall!
Thanks to Wikepedia, I am going to educate everyone about these little buggers...
"Hobo Spiders are brown and measure roughly 12 to 18 mm in length. Their legs show no distinct rings and have short hairs. Their abdomens have several chevron shaped markings. Males are distinctively different from females in that they have two large palps that look like boxing gloves. These palps are often mistaken for fangs or venom sacs, but they are in fact the male genitalia. The females also have these palps, but the ends are not 'swollen' as they are on the males. Females tend to have a larger abdomen when compared to males.
Although the bite of the hobo spider is initially painless, the bite can be serious. After 24 hours, the bite develops into a blister and after 24-36 hours, the blister breaks open, leaving an open, oozing ulceration. Typically when the venom is injected, the victim will experience an immediate redness, which develops around the bite. The most common reported symptom is severe headache. Other symptoms can include nausea, weakness, fatigue, temporary memory loss and vision impairment. In any case, first aid and medical attention should be sought, if bitten, as and when any adverse health effects are observed."
It is said that they are third in line of the most poisonous spiders. First, brown recluse followed by the black widow and the hobo! Sheesh! Gives me the heeby geebies just thinking about how close it was to my bed. Being that we live in a basement apartment, we are going to have to be more careful with our laundry and clothes...making sure that they are not going to lay eggs in there. Hopefully, this is the only one that we ever see!
Well, after that incredibly nerve wracking episode, Blake and I got ready for the day so that we could go purchase next semesters books. I was looking all around the shower, scared that a little hobo would come out and get me!
To make a very crazy and frustrating story at the bookstore short, we did pick up our books and...basically charged away the next two months worth of paychecks! Luckily financial aide and scholarships pay for them, but still...$880 dollars! Just for books. And we looked online and they would've been similarly the same thing! Sheesh..again!
On a lite note...Alex's first tooth started coming in! It's his right bottom incisor. IT's so cute! I'm excited for him...he has been in a lot of pain though and I feel really bad for him, but teeth will be well worth it in the end.

Yikes! We used to find those things all over the place in our old apt. in the 'burg. YUCK! Yeah, we've upgraded since them. Now we get brown recluse and black widow. I haven't seen any recluse *yet* but I hear they're every where, and we've been working on reclaiming the window wells and side of the house from black widows. YUUUUUUCK!!!!! Mostly, we get harmless grass spiders though *Phwew!* We just spent a week with a grass spider living in a jam jar on the counter, lol. But now that he's passed on (he died of natural causes, lol) we have a worm farm(0: Wow! That is a LOT for books. I should ask Mark where he used to get his. Shopping around a lot saved us masses. Good luck with your little guy and teething! You should check out rice husks if he's old enough. I think they were called num num's or something and we'd get 'em at the grocery store there. They're like a teething biscuit for babies who can eat teething biscuits yet. But come to think of it that might be too much for him still. I dunno. Good luck! A net with frozen fruit in it rocks...maybe you could try freezing a cube of rice cereal? Might be too cold, I dunno(0: Hugs and love!
